Friday Khutbah of Masjid Otsuka

December, Friday 15. 2023

All praises are due to Allah. I testify that there is nothing worthy of worship except Allah the uniquely One, who has no partners in His one-ness. And I testify that the Prophet Muhammad is the slave of Allah and His Messenger.

O Servants of Allah! Allah says in the Qur’an in Surah Yunus:

“Indeed, in the alternation of the night and the day and [in] what Allah has created in the heavens and the earth are signs for a people who fear Allah.”  (S.10  V.6)

Indeed, from the grace of Allah upon His creation, and His mercy toward His servants, is that He placed on earth their sustenance, distributed their livelihood therein, and prepared for them therein a provision. all of this with the balance of wisdom and appreciation. Allah says in the Qur’an in Surah Fussilat:

He placed on the earth firm mountains, standing high, showered His blessings upon it, and ordained ˹all˺ its means of sustenance—totaling four Days exactly—for all who ask.”  (S.41  V.10)

The Lord, Glory be to Him, has guaranteed for mankind the reasons for the continuation and sustainability of life. When Allah the Almighty sent Adam and his wife down to the earth, He said to them as in the Qur’an in Suraha al-Baqarah:

“… you (Adam and his wife) will have upon the earth a place of settlement and provision for a time.”  (S.2  V.36)

There are stability and provisions on the earth and your descendants will enjoy until the end of this world. We are entrusted with this land to protect it, preserve it, and not cause harm to its resources.

Allah says in the Qur’an in Surah al-A’araf:

“…and cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation.…”  (S.7  V.85)

Allah commanded us to inhabit the earth, build a civilization, and develop its resources.

Allah says in the Qur’an in Surah Fud:

“…It was He who brought you into being from the earth and made you inhabit it. …”  (S.11  V.61)

By constructing its homes, digging its wells, and paving its roads, in a way that ensures the quality of life in it, and that future generations benefit from it, in keeping with. Preserving the earth and its resources, and sustaining its resources and capabilities, is a reason for achieving security and peace, and a general blessing in the future. We are partners in this land, we live on it, we enjoy its bounties, and we all bear responsibility for its safety and continued stability. Like the people who get on board a ship. Some of them got seats in the upper part, and the others in the lower. When the latter needed water, they had to go up to bring water (and that troubled the others),so they said, ‘Let us make a hole in our share of the ship (and get water) saving those who are above us from troubling them. So, if the people in the upper part left the others do what they had suggested, all the people of the ship would be destroyed, but if they prevented them, both parties would be safe. [Al-Bukhari]   Allah says in the Qur’an in Surah an-Nisaa:

O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. …”  (S.4  V.59)

May the peace and the blessings of Allah be upon prophet Muhammad SAW, his family and all of his Companions. May A

llah be pleased with the Rightly Guided Caliphs: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali, and all those who will follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment.
